From the above comparison table, it is clear DeWalt DCD985M2 is the guy that leads the pack in this DeWalt 20v drill reviews. Not just in features, but also in performance, durability and run time. I have not found this surprising because frankly, I’m not new to DeWalt DCD985M2.
I have quite an experience with this drill as I have checked this it out on different occasions and on different bases of comparison and it has always made the top picks on the list. Even our STRONGEST CORDLESS DRILLS REVIEWS has this DeWalt sitting on top 3, and our WORLD’S BEST CORDLESS DRILLS REVIEW has the drill sitting on top 3. For a complete guide to the best cordless drill, please see our guide here.
There is just no way a drill with such operational benefits won’t be a great drill no matter your bases of comparison.
There is a lot to love about this drill. Let’s start with the versatility. As long as operational benefits are concerned, this is the ideal drill that gives the greatest versatility. This drill does not only support compact drilling and hammer drilling same time, it also supports impact driving. It is very rare to find these 3 features in one drill. Usually you find compact+impact or compact+hammer, rarely compact+impact+hammer. You get this mix in this single tool.
As expected, this DeWalt 20v drill could have been too powerful for screw driving tasks because of its high-end features. To avert that, DeWalt has designed this drill to feature parallel run of LowSpeed-HighTorque. This is the ideal setting for any sort of screw driving task. With this LowSpeed-HighTorque, this 20v drill can drive any screw into any surface without washing the head. This drill also has the best reverse function I have seen in drills. With this, it can remove any screw from any surface.
DeWalt specifically built this drill to support all sort of task levels. With the variable speed, there is no task too big or too small for this drill. All you have to do is switch to the desired speed. As a matter of fact, this DeWalt beast features 3-speed range, not the conventional 2-speed range. You won’t find this in all DeWalt 20v drill tools.
Talking about the battery, there’s one important thing to note. This tool’s model is DCD985M2 but there is another DeWalt 20v drill model that looks just like the DCD985M2. DCD985L2 is a carbon-copy of DCD985M2, however, there is a big difference in the battery. The DCD985M2 comes with a 4 AMP-hour battery while the DCD985L2 comes with a 3 AMP-hour battery. These batteries have the same size and same weight so nothing makes the 3 AH better than the 4 AH. With this noted, it is clear that DCD985M2 is better than DCD985L2.
These 4 AH batteries are virtually immortals. Just one-time charge and you never have to charge this drill again in over a month even with constant daily usage. (Yes, I was surprised too when I found out) You would also love that these batteries have a fairly short charge time, 30mins-40mins.
Talking about the torque in this drill, I would say “IT IS DANGEROUS”. This torque is so strong it can hurt you if you are not careful. This drill features a kind of torque that makes it perfect for automobile tasks like lug nuts removal etc. All you need to do is to select the right setting and everything goes as smooth and easy. Using this DeWalt 20v drill on concrete feels like dipping a needle into a foam. I would recommend this drill anyday.
